Research forms an important part of our practice, providing a theoretical support for our built and design work. This takes a number of forms including writing, speculative design projects and teaching. We write a regular column for the RIBA Journal in which we undertake typological studies of everyday and often overlooked spaces. These include pubs, caravans, piers, allotments and greengrocers. We have also written for a number of publications including Mas Context, Edge Condition, Perspecta, Volume and Icon. We also teach and lecture extensively, using this as a methodology for speculative research into topics such as the Metropolitan Green Belt, New Towns, domestic planning and housing design which in turns feeds into the knowledge base and expertise of the practice. Both partners are highly respected within the architectural field and regularly contribute to conferences, industry forums and panel discussions.
